I've seen firsthand the growth of students by a well managed and adequately funded public education system through my experience at Newport Harbor in NMUSD.
Compared to my step kids experience, where the lack of resources and advocacy for special needs left their school's administration unequipped to prepare teachers to prevent students from slipping through the cracks.
This is why I saw a need for robust leadership to step up and advocate for the students and the teachers.
I started Martial Arts in middle school and have been training ever since. I know first hand that balancing academics and athletics as a student is hard, but it teaches valuable life skills.
Personal development and respect learned through hard work on the mat and in the class room built my worldview that growing the community is as important as growing yourself.
This is why I will leverage my power as a trustee to ensure the physical and mental health and well-being of the children.
Since we are all immigrants in one way or another, its important to be aware of our cultural make up and be inclusive to everyone.
That's why I support ethnic studies program being a high school graduation requirement. Diversifying our narrative with more BIPOC authors and increasing the scope of the reading list in literature class.
My goal once elected to the school board is to ensure an equitable future for every student and to leverage the power of the trustee and be the advocate for students and teachers in the board room.
I will have flexible office hours in order to listen to the community and be able to understand what they need.
Uplifting the voices of community members who have been doing the work in this district for equitable future.
I will show up to the job and make sure the community is represented.
Increasing access to WiFi by leveraging the power of the trustee to get subsidized access.
Increasing availability of Chromebooks so students can stay safe at home.
Ensuring teachers are focused on overcoming the challenge of distance learning and teaching curriculum this way until we can all safely return to the classroom.
All forms of hate speech should not be tolerated. Preventing violence should be a school district's priority. My experience in martial arts guides my Anti-Bullying philosophy.
Students AND staff who violate hate speech rules should be required to take an after school counseling program. More after school programs to invest in our youth, such as martial arts or yoga are just as valuable to student growth as math or science.
Listening to the community and comparing the options that will best rehabilitate and educate our community members, not simply punishing them and let them slip through the cracks.
Our society has seen great prosperity and growth because of Industry and Technology. But lack of oversight and regulation has seen even more destruction of the natural environment.
As a trustee, I will make it a priority to utilize renewable resources like Solar Panels.
Introducing school gardens for student's to learn first hand how to grow their own food (and that produce isn't made in a grocery store). Sorting waste for composting is an innovative idea that should have been implemented a long time ago.
